I am so delighted and honored to have just secured a place on this great blog, Partfaliaz. The administrator, Antoine, is clearly very selective, choosing only artist whose work inspires him. Funny that this is a French site, and he chose to feature an illustration that is indeed supposed to represent a french woman, drawn for a wine label proposal.

Beards are Fun!

A new client, Americas Quarterly, has been commissioning me to do portraits of Latin American entrepreneurs. This fellow came out really well - sometimes I get lost in the beards but I think I nailed it this time.

My first GQ commission is for their "Political Spy". UK edition, though, so he's not "one of ours". They didn't supply me with his name, as I assume then they would have to kill me.

My First Wallpaper!

Textile designer Scott Bodenner found me to draw a rocket-themed wallpaper for an upcoming show at Fancy, here in Seattle. We used a template of a ribbon pattern that he already had. Very swooshy and fun. Can't wait to work on a toile with him!

Illustration Annual Winner!

I just received notification that my Cheever illustration has been selected for Communication Arts' Illustration Annual 51, coming out in May/June. They had only 155 winning projects from 6878 entries, so this is a delightful honor!

Phillip Blond

Here is another of my Welt am Sonntag portraits. He refers to himself as a "Radical Tory". Rather a lot of unkempt bangs for a Tory, I thought. Here is a quote from him:

"It's very clear we're in the middle of a paradigm shift," he says. "We are witnessing the end of the neoliberal project - just as 30 years ago we saw the end of Keynesianism. We're in a shift of comparable proportions. The interesting question is what comes next."

He takes it as given that Keynesianism is dead! Well I guess we will find out over the course of the next couple of years...

Unexpected Prize!

I returned from the holiday break to a delightful surprise: Adrian Curry, of the Auteurs website, has deemed the Palindromes poster one of the 10 best movie posters of the decade! Thanks, Adrian!

Alistair Darling

He is one of the recent subjects for the German Newspaper, Welt am Sonntag, for whom I do two portraits or so a month. Does he dye his eyebrows black or his hair white?

Altpick Award!

More precisely an Honorable Mention for the series of architects that I did last year for Intelligent Life Magazine. Yay!

Genius Awards

This great event, The Stranger Magazine's Genius Award ceremony, featured my portrait artwork in two extreme sizes, the smallest and largest versions I have ever seen! The largest were the 10' x 10' banners, three of which are shown here.

They also had cupcakes made up with all of the images!!! I was so thrilled with the wonderfulness of these!
